Lack of cheap real estate is the root of all problems. Some will point to private equity buying up everything and ruining (baseball, bowling etc.). If you had cheap real estate, you can still operate a business and compete, but once your landlord raises rent every year regardless of how your business is doing, even the successful ones have to pack their bags. So many successful businesses in my city and the neighboring cities have shut down simply because “they couldn’t come to a mutual agreement on the lease with the landlord”.
I used to think you wanted to own the premises you operated out of, but you're probably just better off leasing it out and getting paid whether the business had a tough month or not.
This comes across as an unhinged boomer rant but is probably more right than wrong.
I have seen fast food chains in the US offering $30/h and that is a life-changing amount of money for a lot of the world. Immigration, as in an individual’s choice to immigrate or not, and the effect they might have, is a supply and demand question.
Immigration is not an individuals choice at all, unless you think burglary should be an individual's choice too; the government just decides that your house is allowed to be burglarized by someone that gets a permit to legally burglarize? ... and I guess the effect on your belongings is a supply and demand question, they demand it and you supply your things they burglarize and then sell to the government chop shop that makes the ruling class rich off of the burglary they made "legal". That's essentially the psyop the have people supporting.
It's quite impressive how they've done it, including that "immigration" is immensely damaging to the source country too and arguably even more damaging than the destination country because no developing country will ever emerge from developing if all its best are immediately siphoned out of the developing country into the rich country. It's basically nothing different than a far more sophisticated, complicated, complex, psychologically manipulative version of what people like calling "slavery", sucking resources out of one group to support the decadent parasitic lifestyle of another group. It's the same ruling class parasite playbook they have used for millennia. They just change the methods, branding, and approach a bit sometimes to adapt it to the technological and practical environment.
Unfortunately for us all, the propaganda machine of the corporations have inoculated or conditioned many people to see certain facts as unappealing through various forms and methods of social cues that start with children, i.e., it's basically grooming by the ruling class to condition children who grow up into mindless young adults that thin they know everything because they stepped out of their parent's assisted living into college assisted living and then join corporate assisted living...
It largely came out of the research of the early 20th century, practice of "world wars" and all he famous programs that have also been made unpalatable for people to think, let along hear about, not to mention tooling that was developed during the Iraq war (remember how that was not at all a blatant psyop?), much of which I have direct knowledge of in ways I can't elaborate on.
I know that may sound like just more "unhinged boomer rant", even though ironically, most boomers are very much system loyalists, which is why they also largely trend "GOP" or "Conservative" or "Right"; i.e., system servant, mostly out of greedy, ignorant, jealous, decadent, narcissistic self-interest.
Being upset about immigration like this comes across as someone living somewhere successful but is not competitive with the new immigrants. Not saying psyops and civil forfeiture aren’t a thing, just that watching conspiracy youtube is less helpful than skilling up. This is a reminder to myself, not an accusation.
